Little Foxes can turn sweet things in a Christian’s life to sour.
Song of Songs 2:15 (KJV)
15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
Here the underlying principle is that little compromises and “little” sins must be destroyed and removed in a Christian’s life as they will hinder the Christian from bearing fruit, and ultimately leave their lives empty. It is vital that Christians not be deceived with the thought of little means no big deal. Little foxes must get our attention. Little foxes can be a besetting sin or reoccurring attitude that hinders us from bearing the fruit of the Spirit
Little foxes can be a sin of the flesh or pride that would hinder us from enjoying the sweet taste of answered prayer.
“Take Us” means take decisive action, attack the foxes. Take the foxes or the implication of the text is that the foxes will take you. Often little foxes attack at the beginning of growth. Little foxes spoil the vines when the grapes are tender and not full grown. Little foxes can attack at anytime, but they attack that which is weak, that which is not yet ripe for harvest, that Christian that is new in his faith, or has taken a recent a step of growth, but is not yet stabilized.
Beware of your life becoming fruitless, empty, and unproductive spiritually. Beware of the little foxes that will leave your life unproductive and take the sweet things away (i.e. – Christian fellowship, Communion with Christ, The fruit of love, joy, peace and its impact on others’ lives). If there a little fox, a besetting sin, a controlling attitude that is wrong, a sin of the flesh, a small compromise you are making, Then take you the fox, the little fox and destroy it in your life today. Reckon yourself dead unto it. Refuse to let it reign in your body, mind, or spirit. Take decisive action today to ensure spiritual fruit comes from your life tomorrow!
