Little Things that May a Big Difference – “The Thought of Foolishness is sin”

Have you ever had this thought, “But it is only a thought, no one sees it” or “I am glad no one saw that thought.” A thought is one of those little things that makes a big difference.

Proverbs 24:9 (KJV)
9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Proverbs remind us how vital a thought is. A wrong thought, a thought of foolishness, a wicked thought, is sin and we know that God knows our thoughts afar off.

Psalm 139:2 (KJV)
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Why is a thought a little thing that makes a big difference? First, thoughts make up who we are.

Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

What you think on is what you become. If you think on revenge long enough, you will become an angry person. If you think a lustful thought and return to it over and over, you will become an immoral person. A thought is very influential in your life. If you think on how bad life is, you will become a depressed person. The list could go on and on. What thought in your life is influencing you? What thought do you keep returning to, and every time you do, you know it is foolishness, it is not right before God.

Second, Thoughts determine the direction we go

You have heard the quote,

“Sow a thought,
reap an action,
sow an action,
reap a habit,
sow a habit,
reap a character,
sow a character,
reap a destiny

The rich man in the New Testament is an example of how a thought lead to a destiny.

Luke 12:17-20 (KJV)
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

The rich man was called a fool by God because of his thoughts and his thoughts led to a destiny (“this night thy soul shall be required of thee”). Oh, that we would be reminded today, that the sowing of a thought is a little thing that makes a big difference!

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Keep thy heart and thy thoughts with great vigilance! Guard your thought life today because a thought is a little thing that makes a big difference.
